The Ants - 27:48
There was a gang of nine in the city; they were making mischief in the region and never did anything good.
The people of Thamud were a corrupt people, associating partners with Allah:
The Heights/7:73
"And We sent to the people of Thamud their brother Salih: "O My people, worship Allah. You have no god besides Him. A clear proof has come to you from your Lord, and this camel of Allah will be a sign for you. Let him graze on Allah´s land. Do not harm him, lest a painful torment seizes you."
The Heights/7:74
Remember that He made you heirs after the people of ´Ad. He established you in the earth. You build mansions on its plains and carve houses on its mountains. Remember the Blessings of Allah and do not create disorder in the earth.
Prophet Hud/11:62
"They said: "O Salih, before this you were a popular source of hope among us. Do you now forbid us from what our forefathers used to serve? We are in doubt about what you call us to."

"They swore by Allah and said to one another, "Let us make a night raid on him and his family and then tell his tribe that we know nothing about their death and that we speak the truth."

As for Thamud, We showed them the way. But they preferred blindness to Hidayet. Finally, the lightning of a humiliating torment seized them for what they had earned.
