The Cow - 2:217
"They ask you about fighting in the Holy Month. Say: "Fighting on it is a great sin. But to turn away from the way of Allah and to be ungrateful to Him and to the Holy Mosque and to drive out its people from it is a greater sin with Allah. For oppression and cruelty is a greater crime than killing."If they could, they would fight you until they turn you back from your religion. Whoever of you turns away from his religion and dies as an unbeliever, all that he did will be in vain in this world and in the Hereafter. They are the people of the Fire and will abide therein forever."
Oppression and cruelty is a greater crime than killing:
The Spoils of War/8:39
Fight them until they abolish oppression and oppression and make the religion the religion of Allah alone. If they cease hostility, surely Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.
Prophet Jonah/10:83
Only a few of his people believed in Moses because they feared the torture and oppression of Pharaoh and his men. Pharaoh was a tyrant in the earth who exceeded the limits.
The Bee/16:110
Then your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful to those who emigrated after being oppressed, and strived and resisted; surely your Lord is Forgiving and Merciful to them.
The Cow/2:191
Fight them wherever you meet them and drive them out from wherever they drive you out; oppression and torture are worse than killing. Do not fight them unless they fight you near the Holy Mosque. If they attack you, attack them back. Such is the punishment of the disbelievers.
