The Companies - 39:29
Allah gives the example of a man who has disputing partners and a man who depends on a single person. Are these two ever equal? Praise is to Allah. But many do not know.
Why did they associate partners with Allah?

They took gods besides Allah to support them.

They took gods besides Allah. That they may help them.

"Have they taken intercessors besides Allah? Say, "Even if they have nothing and cannot think"?"

"They leave Allah and serve those who can do them neither harm nor good, and say: "These will intercede for us with Allah". Say: "Do you inform Him of what Allah does not know in the heavens and the earth? He is Most High, far from what you associate partners with."

You have come to Us as one, just as We first created you. You have left behind what we made you imagine. We do not see your intercessors with you, whom you claim to be partners (with God in the decision to be made about you). The ties between you have been severed. Those whom you used to put forward have forsaken you.

Should not the gods they had taken besides Allah to draw near to Him have helped them? Rather, they abandoned them. Such are their lies and fabrications.

He guided a group to the right path and a group deserved to go astray. They have taken the devils as friends besides Allah, but they think that they are on the right path.

Do the disbelievers think that they will be saved by taking My servants as guardians besides Me? We have appointed Hell as the abode of those disbelievers.

"Indeed, to Allah alone belongs religion. Those who take those other than Him as awliya (friends) say: "We serve them so that they may bring us closer to Allah". Allah will decide between them in that in which they differ. Surely Allah guides not the liars and the ungrateful."

There are those who take others besides Allah as gods and love them as they love Allah. But the believers love Allah most of all. If only those wrong-doers knew that when they see the torment, they will realize that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah´s torment is severe!
