"Before the Torah was sent down, all food was lawful for the Children of Israel until Israel made it unlawful for itself. Say, "Bring the Torah and read it if you are truthful."

We forbade the Jews all hoofed animals, and We forbade them the fat of cattle and sheep, except what they carry on their backs or in their intestines, or what is mixed with their bones. Thus did We punish them for their excesses, and We are truthful.
