The Letter Qaf - 50:19
Then the intoxication of death has indeed come; that is what you have been running away from.
Death avoiders and why:
The Congregation - Friday/62:6
"Say: "O Jews, if you claim that you alone among the people are the friends of Allah, then wish for death, if you are truthful."
The Congregation - Friday/62:7
They will never be able to wish for it because of what they used to do. Allah knows the wrongdoers well.
The Congregation - Friday/62:8
"Say: "The death from which you have been fleeing will surely reach you, and then you will be brought back to the Presence of the Knower of the hidden and the unseen. He will inform you of everything you do."
The Cow/2:94
"Say: "If, as you assert, the abode of the Hereafter is reserved by Allah for you alone and not for anyone else, and if you are sincere in this assertion, then ask for death!"
The Cow/2:95
They will never wish for it because of what their hands have done. Allah knows the wrongdoers.
The Cow/2:96
You will find them the most fond of life, even more than the pagans. Every one of them wants to live a thousand years. But his long life will not keep him away from the torment. Allah is All-Seeing of what they do.
The Coalition/33:13
"A group of them were saying, "People of Yathrib, you cannot hold on any longer; go back."The other group of them were asking permission from the Prophet, saying, "Our houses are unprotected,"even though their houses were protected. Their whole purpose was to escape."

They had promised Allah before that they would not turn their backs and flee. Every promise made to Allah will be questioned.

"Say, "Fleeing from death or war will not benefit you. Even if you flee, you will not live long."
