Throughout history, the Children of Israel, out of their inherent jealousy, could not bear the favor/prophecy that Allah bestowed upon His servants whom He willed, and therefore they denied the prophets and the Book unless it was given to one of their own, and do not send to the Children of Israel of Mecca who had the same attitude:
