Prophet Muhammad held himself responsible for denying the people. Our Lord reassured him by informing him that past peoples had treated the messengers in the same way and that the messenger was only responsible for the revelation and not for the unbelievers.
Allah reassures His Messenger against the hypocrites of the people of the Book who are at war with him and seek to neutralize him and thus the message:
