بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ
24:1 This is a Surah which We have sent down and published as a law, and We have placed in it clear verses so that you may take admonition.
24:2 Strike each of the man and woman who commits adultery with a hundred strokes of the gavel. If you believe in Allah and the Last Day, your pity for them should not prevent you from applying Allah´s law. Let a group of believers witness their punishment.
24:3 An adulterous man will eventually marry an adulterous or idolatrous woman, and an adulterous woman will eventually marry an adulterous or idolatrous man. This is forbidden for believers.
24:4 Those who accuse married women and cannot bring four witnesses, strike them with eighty strokes of the sword, and do not accept their testimony for ever. They are the ones who have gone astray.
24:5 But for those who repent after that and reform themselves, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
24:6 The testimony of a man who accuses his wife and has no witnesses other than himself may be valid if he swears by Allah four times that he speaks the truth.
24:7 On the fifth oath, he swears that Allah´s curse be upon him if he is a liar.
24:8 If she swears to Allah four times and testifies that her husband is a liar, then she will escape the punishment.
24:9 The fifth time she swears by Allah that Allah´s wrath be upon her if her husband is truthful.
24:10 If Allah had not dealt with you out of His forgiveness and mercy, and if Allah had not been the Accepter of Repentance and Wise
24:11 A gang of you invented that slander. Do not think that it is bad for you; rather it is a good (lesson) for you. By the way, every one of them has shared the sin. And those of them who are the ringleaders deserve a great punishment.
24:12 "When you heard it, should not you believing men and women have said to each other, "This is clearly a great lie"?"
24:13 Should they not have brought four witnesses? Since they could not bring witnesses, they are liars with Allah.
24:14 Had it not been for Allah´s forgiveness and mercy to you in this world and the Hereafter, a great punishment would have touched you for what you were involved in.
24:15 You were talking about it on your tongues and you were talking about something of which you had no knowledge. You thought it a simple thing. But with Allah it is great.
24:16 "When you heard it, you said, "It is not right for us to talk about it. You are the Great. Should you not have said, "This is a great slander"?"
24:17 Allah admonishes you so that you may not repeat the like. If you are believers.
24:18 This is how Allah explains to you His verses. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
24:19 Those who desire to spread immorality among the believers have deserved a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. Allah knows, you do not know.
24:20 Were it not for Allah´s forgiveness and mercy upon you, and were it not for Allah Most Compassionate and Most Merciful.
