بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ
7:161 "Remember when We said to them: "Dwell in this city, eat from it as you wish, speak in friendship and enter the gate humbly, so that We may forgive you your faults. We will give more to those who do good."
7:162 But those of them who were unjust changed the word into something other than what they were told. So We sent upon them a torment from the sky because of their wrongdoing.
7:163 Ask them about the people by the sea. They used to violate the prohibition of work on Saturday. On the day when they observed Saturday their fish came to them in abundance, but on the day when they did not observe Saturday no fish came to them. Thus did We test them because they went astray.
7:164 "A party of them said: "Why do you advise a people whom Allah will destroy or torment severely?"They said: "Apologize to your Lord,"perhaps they will listen and be saved."
7:165 When they ignored and forgot what they were reminded of, We saved those who fought against evil, and We seized those who did wrong with a terrible torment for their transgression.
7:166 "And when they disobeyed what was forbidden to them, We said to them: "Be despicable apes!"
7:167 And your Lord has declared that He will send to them, until the Day of Resurrection, those who will inflict on them the worst of punishments. And your Lord is the swift Reckoner and surely He is Forgiving, Merciful.
7:168 We divided them into communities on the earth, some of them were good and some of them were lowly. We tested them with good and evil lest they should turn back.
7:169 "They were replaced by other generations who inherited the Book. But they said, "We shall be forgiven anyway,"and chose vile and transitory benefits. If similar temporary benefits came to them, they would still choose them. Was not a promise taken from them that they would adhere to the Book and speak only the truth about Allah? Have they not read and learned it? Better for the righteous is the abode of the Hereafter. Do you not understand?"
7:170 As for those who hold to the Book and pray, We do not leave those who do good without reward.
7:171 "We shook the mountain over them like an umbrella, so that they thought it would fall on them: "Hold fast to what I have given you. Meditate on its contents so that you may be saved."
7:172 "When your Lord brings forth the offspring from the loins of the sons of Adam, He makes them witnesses to themselves: "Am I not your Lord?"They say, "Yes, we bear witness."So on the Day of Resurrection you will not be able to say: "We were unaware of this"."
7:173 "Or you will not be able to say: "Our forefathers used to associate partners and we are their descendants after them, will you destroy us because of those who indulged in innovations and superstitions?"
7:174 This is how We explain the Verses so that they may turn back.
7:175 Tell them what became of him to whom We gave Our Verses, but he turned away from them, and Satan followed him until he went astray.
7:176 And if We had willed, We could have raised him up with Our Verses, but he was attached to the world and followed his desire. His condition is like that of a disgruntled dog whose tongue lolls out, whether you press him or leave him alone. Such is the state of the people who deny Our signs. Relate this incident so that they may reflect.
7:177 How evil is the example of the people who deny Our Verses and only wrong themselves!
7:178 Whomever Allah guides to the truth, it is he who finds the truth. And whomsoever He leads astray, they are the losers.
7:179 And We have condemned to Hell a great number from mankind and jinn; they have hearts, but they do not comprehend; they have eyes, but they do not see; they have ears, but they do not hear. They are like livestock, even worse. And they are unaware of what is going on.
7:180 The best names are Allah´s; so call Him by them. Leave those who distort His names; they will be punished for what they have done.
