بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّح۪يمِ
4:21 How can you take it back when you were once each other´s closest friends and they took a firm promise from you?
4:22 Do not marry the women your fathers married. But do not break such marriages that you have had in the past. That is a great sin and an abominable and evil way.
4:23 These things are forbidden to you: Your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your aunts, your sisters´ daughters, your brothers´ daughters, your sisters´ daughters, your mothers who suckled you, your sisters in law, the mothers of your wives, your step-daughters of your wives with whom you have had sexual intercourse who are in your houses - if you have not had sexual intercourse with them, you may marry their daughters - the wives of your own sons, and taking two sisters together. Existing marriages are excluded from this law. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
4:24 And married women, except those over whom you have rights by contract. These are the laws which Allah has made obligatory upon you. Those other than these are lawful for you, provided that you live chastely, do not commit adultery, and ask them for their mahr, and those whom you like, pay them their mahr as an obligation. There is no harm in your mutual agreement to fix the mahr when you fulfill this obligation. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
4:25 Those of you who cannot afford to marry free women, let them marry those to whom your believing oaths/agreements entitle you. Allah is the Best Knower of your faith. You are equal to each other. Marry them with the permission of their owners and pay them their mahr accordingly. Let them live chaste lives, not committing adultery and not taking secret friends. If they commit adultery after they have gained their freedom through marriage, they should be punished with half the punishment given to free women. This is for those of you who fear sin. It is better for you if you are patient. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
4:26 Allah wishes to make clear to you these things, and to guide you to the way of those before you, and to reward you for your turning to Him (your repentance). Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
4:27 Allah wants to respond to your turning towards Him, while those who follow their desires and whims want you to go astray.
4:28 Allah wants to lighten your burden. For man was created weak.
4:29 Believers! Do not eat one another´s property by injustice and deceit, even in consensual trade. Do not kill one another. Allah is Most Merciful to you
4:30 Whoever does these things with enmity and oppression, We will send him to the Fire. This is easy for Allah.
4:31 If you avoid the great prohibitions, We will cover your sins and admit you with an honorable entrance.
4:32 Do not covet what Allah has bestowed on each of you. For men a share of what they earn and for women a share of what they earn. Ask Allah to bestow His grace upon you. Allah is All-Knowing.
4:33 We have set aside for each of you a share of what your parents and your relatives and those related to you by marriage have left you. You should give to each his share. Surely Allah is Witness of all things.
4:34 Men watch over women. For Allah has given each of them different abilities and qualities. Indeed, men are responsible for the maintenance of the household. The righteous women submit (to God´s law) and protect (their honor and chastity) which God has commanded them to protect, even if they are alone. Admonish those women whose chastity you are concerned about, separate your beds, and finally remove them. If they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Allah is the Great, the Exalted.
4:35 If you fear that the married couple may fall out, you should appoint an arbitrator from the man´s family and an arbitrator from the woman´s family. If they wish to reconcile, Allah will reconcile them. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Knower.
4:36 Serve Allah and associate with Him nothing and no one. Do good to parents, relatives, orphans, the poor, near neighbors, distant neighbors, companions, travelers, and those to whom your oaths/agreements are due. Allah does not love the arrogant and conceited.
4:37 These are stingy and they advise the people to be stingy. They conceal what Allah has given them of His bounty. We have prepared for the disbelievers a painful torment.
4:38 These give their wealth to the people for show. They do not believe in Allah and the Last Day. Whoever has Satan as his companion has a very bad companion.
4:39 What would have happened if they had believed in Allah and the Last Day and spent out of what Allah has given them as charity? Allah Knows them.
4:40 Allah does not do injustice even to the weight of an atom. On the contrary, He will repay good deeds many times over and will give a great reward from His own Presence.
